What is Nolo? Does Nolo hire lawyers to help people?

Nolo offers several services: Do it yourself guides for consumers and business, marketing services for law firms

You are both talking about these approaches to service or product development in the private market. Do you thoughts about how these would relate to the public sphere - either for legal aid nonprofits or court systems?

Scott: do you have to handle any interesting IP/copyright issues? Since you are handling very interesting products are being developed. Or, is there a path forward for open-sourced forms since these products could help A2J? Thanks!

Arizona just opened the door to non-lawyer ownership of law firms in part to encourage law-tech partnerships particularly to increase access to justice.

One of the first projects I did was creating a web app that let users put in their name and find their next court date & location - I had people tell me that this could be UPL…

What does EPL stand for?

UPL stands for unauthorized practice of law

For Lauren - with COLawGuides, how do you weed out the simpler cases that are great candidates for self-help, versus more complex cases that would benefit from a lawyer? How did you automate that thinking?

Has this program been able to decrease the overall number of self-represented parties appearing before the court or at least provide the client with the advice necessary to allow for a "smoother experience" for both client & court?
