One of my schools is starting a mentorship program.
Hi everyone - SO sorry I am late;) I am Jamie Skaronea MKV Service Coordinator with Westminster Public Schools
We recently engaged building principals to raise their awareness about HM students and overall student disengagement, and to collect information about the different strategies and tracking processes they have in place for identifying and re-engaging students. We also asked them to identify the barriers they see to re-engagement and what supports they need from us. The data is really rich and we are acting on it now!
Doria, how does the mentorship program work?
Cheryl, that's awesome!!! I want to hear more. We must catch up
We haven't started yet. Instructional staff and admin has a group of about 7 kids with whom they will meet every Monday. We are starting with doing restorative justice circles and slowly building to where we can talk about issues bothering kids and address attendance and grades. We will be the assigned contact person for the family as well.
Doria, I love that idea! Please keep us posted about how it goes.
Sorry I have to sign off...I have another meeting. Thanks for the information!
Thanks, Renee!!! Hooray for team work
A little off topic but speaking of social media…In a recent SAC meeting I attended a parent came up with a great suggestion. When talking about getting communication out about social media and webpages that are not getting much use, the parent suggested that on those awesome yard signs you see around town (i.e. My child is a proud 5th grade student at ____) add something that says something like…do not forget to check out our social media/website page @ _____. Very visible.
That's a great idea Clarice! Thanks for sharing
So cool! And keeps admin leadership connected to students and families.
Thanks, Kerry…so many good examples…I’m from KC originally…appreciate the reference. :-)
@Kim Watchorn … you should see the PBS Newshour featuring Kerry from 2017. Good stuff!
I'll send the zoom fatigue info in a follow-up email. The info that Clarice is sharing now
Looks like we have 2,662 fewer CO MV students identified this year (10,999) vs last year (13,661) based on the Oct. count snapshot
